Standard 7: Analyst
Educators understand and use data to drive their instruction and support students in achieving their learning goals.

Educators:

  • 7a  Provide alternative ways for students to demonstrate competency and reflect on their learning using            technology.
  • 7b  Use technology to design and implement a variety of formative and summative assessments                         that accommodate learner needs, provide timely feedback to students and inform instruction.
  • 7c  Use assessment data to guide progress and communicate with students, parents and education                    stakeholders to build student self-direction.
Artifact
These artifacts incorporate best design elements to enhance maximal learning for students. I used the edpuzzle technology to annotate a video to break down concepts in the sections with comments and questions. This process enhances student engagement while providing accommodation to support differentiated learning. The video fosters independent learning by providing a platform that each individual student can use within their own timeframe. The embedded accessibility features allow students to modify the output for their own learning pace. Additionally, this video also incorporates questions to implement formative assessments that will inform me about the students' comprehension and level of engagement with the lesson.
Reflection
I feel that these artifacts align most closely with 7b "Use assessment data to guide progress and communicate with students, parents and education stakeholders to build student self-direction." I have learned through exposure to the Universal Design for Learning the importance of providing a broad variety of means for students to engage with work in ways that are meaningful and facilitate their individual learning needs. Many new platforms like edpuzzle and Nearpod have embedded accommodations that enhance learning. Discovering all of the ways that technology is working with educational standards is inspiring and takes a great deal of the guess work out of designing lessons that are impactful and meet the needs of diverse learners. I intend to continue using this platform provide formative evaluation and accessibility. Teaching students how technology can enhance their learning needs is also very important.
